“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” ~ Maya Angelou

My creative journey started when I was 5 yrs. Old when I learned to sew and design clothes for  my barbie doll. The felling of what I could create was addictive.

This continued on and as a high school 4-H member, after taking more sewing classes, I entered a sewing contest sponsored by Woolite (a gentile soap to wash wool in). I made a dress and coat ensemble and won.

Even though I know how to sew I wanted to learn more and enrolled into Clothing Construction & Design courses at a local community college. There I entered an annual design contest with a Los Angeles college in the wearable art category. I won 3rd place which was the first time our college won any placement.

I continued creating wearable art, invited to galleries, runway type shows and in publications while working and teaching at a local fabric store.

My creative/artistic journey then took me to a computer graphic arts class using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign at another community college. This was new, interesting, exciting and satisfying all in one. I kept going until I graduated for a State School with a BA degree in Visual Communication or Graphic Design.

It was within these courses that I took a watercolor class and feel in love with it and could not stop painting and exploring this medium. Seeing the beauty of this art I thought won’t it be great to wear what I paint. That is when I discovered surface pattern design and have been exploring that creative outlet since.

Today, I live and work in Nevada City, California, where my family has lived for five generations and where we raised our two sons. The Sierra Foothills continue to inspire my hand-painted watercolor artwork and surface pattern designs.
